Multidimensional Continued Fractions, Dynamical Renormalization and Kam Theory

چکیده
The disadvantage of ‘traditional’ multidimensional continued fraction algorithms is that it is not known whether they provide simultaneous rational approximations for generic vectors. Following ideas of Dani, Lagarias and Kleinbock-Margulis we describe a simple algorithm based on the dynamics of flows on the homogeneous space SL(d,Z)\SL(d,R) (the space of lattices of covolume one) that indeed yields best possible approximations to any irrational vector. The algorithm is ideally suited for a number of dynamical applications that involve small divisor problems. We explicitely construct renormalization schemes for (a) the linearization of vector fields on tori of arbitrary dimension and (b) the construction of invariant tori for Hamiltonian systems.

Renormalization of Multidimensional Hamiltonian Flows
We construct a renormalization operator acting on the space of analytic Hamiltonians defined on T T, d ≥ 2, based on the multidimensional continued fractions algorithm developed by the authors in [6]. We show convergence of orbits of the operator around integrable Hamiltonians satisfying a non-degeneracy condition. This in turn yields a new proof of a KAM-type theorem on the stability of diopha...
متن کاملS - adic expansions related to continued fractions
We consider S-adic expansions associated with continued fraction algorithms, where an S-adic expansion corresponds to an infinite composition of substitutions. Recall that a substitution is a morphism of the free monoid. We focus in particular on the substitutions associated with regular continued fractions (Sturmian substitutions), and with Arnoux–Rauzy, Brun, and Jacobi–Perron (multidimension...
متن کاملA renormalization group approach to quasiperiodic motion with Brjuno frequencies
We introduce a renormalization group scheme that applies to vector fields on Td×Rm with frequency vectors that satisfy a Brjuno condition. Earlier approaches were restricted to Diophantine frequencies, due to a limited control of multidimensional continued fractions. We get around this restriction by avoiding the use of a continued fractions expansion. Our results concerning invariant tori gene...
متن کاملLyapunov Exponents for Non-classical Multidimensional Continued Fraction Algorithms
We introduce a simple geometrical two-dimensional continued fraction algorithm inspired from dynamical renormalization. We prove that the algorithm is weakly convergent, and that the associated transformation admits an ergodic absolutely continuous invariant probability measure. Following Lagarias, its Lyapunov exponents are related to the approximation exponents which measure the diophantine q...
متن کاملP-adic Continued Fractions and a P-adic Behavior of Quasi-periodic Dynamical Systems
In this paper we introduce p-adic continued fractions and its application to quasi-periodic dynamical systems. Investigating the recurrent properties of its orbits, we use the lattice theory, which has direct applications to cryptography. At last we show some numerical calculations of p-adic continued fractions and Gauss reduction algorithm by using the open source software Sage.
